Vemme Ventura

Custodian I

Nuevem Ventura has worked for the University for 10 years in the Custodial & Grounds Services. She likes to go by Vemme or “V”.

Vemme applied for and interviewed for the lead position for shop B3500 in 2022. Unfortunately, she was not selected. The feedback she received from the interview was that she needed more experience. She was not angry or disappointed; instead, she started learning and gaining the knowledge required to become the Lead.

Vemme started helping with covering staff absences, training new employees, putting away supplies, cleaning, and organizing the dock. Vemme continued to learn and grow, and in January of 2023, she became the official Lead for shop B3500.

Vemme is a hard worker and willing to help anyone who needs it. Working closely with her peers is one of the reasons she wanted to become a Lead She also knew that as a Lead, she would have more opportunities to grow.

One of Vemme’s challenges was opening up and being more social with her peers. She has been known to be a little shy at times. During her training, she learned that effectively communicating with staff is vital. Everyone learns differently and at a different pace. Vemme adapted her training style to incorporate patience and understanding when training staff and is seeing tremendous results. Vemme is working to reinforce respect and better communication with all staff. One of her goals is to create a positive and collaborative work environment for all.

Vemme enjoys the weekends with her family and friends, traveling, shopping, and even a good red wine after a long week.
